Enhancing the intellect

It was a quiet, dark night. The school seemed to be asleep, with the training ground closed, students going to sleep, and everything shutting down. However, one student stayed up, one that was skimming through multiple textbooks for a while now. the library was dark except with one lamp on which was at a desk. Cain Kitsuno sat at that desk with what seemed a mountain of books on both sides of him. He kept reading about a lot of things, past experts, fire manipulators, things that involved him. He kept reading with his bag on the back of his chair. Cain flipped through the pages and then after finishing off another book, he looked to the ceiling and took a deep breath, then sighing. He then went back to reading after grabbing another book. He kept reading until at one point some text was missing. He was a wondering a bit as he quickly pulled up a side of the book and looked at the cover of the book. He didn't know what the cover read, even that was a little messed up. Was this book tampered with? Could it hold something secret within it that one person tampered with, giving such a person an edge? Cain pondered this, but then went back to his desk. He went back to reading the other books remaining silent, the only sound was a page flipping.
